Do Anxiety Rings have a place in the Wellness Industry?

June 14, 2023 Posted by New Day Strategic Therapy

The wellness industry is constantly evolving, and one of the latest trends making waves is anxiety rings. Originally designed as a fashionable accessory, these rings are now being hailed as a mental health aid by many. With the growing awareness of mental health issues, people are looking for ways to manage their anxiety and stress levels.

Anxiety rings are becoming increasingly popular as they offer a discreet and accessible way to manage anxiety and promote mindfulness. These rings are designed to help people become more aware of their emotions and provide a tactile reminder to take deep breaths and stay present in the moment. This rise of anxiety rings in the wellness industry is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of mental health and the willingness of people to explore new ways to take care of themselves. In this article, we’ll delve deeper into the world of anxiety rings and explore if anxiety rings really work.

TL;DR: While they may provide temporary benefits, be mindful of their potential as a distraction and the short-lived nature of the placebo effect.

The History and Evolution of Anxiety Rings

Anxiety rings have a long history, dating back to ancient civilisations. In ancient Rome, people used worry stones to calm their nerves. These stones were small and smooth, and people would rub them with their fingers to relieve anxiety. Recently, anxiety rings have become a popular accessory, particularly for those who suffer from anxiety or stress.

The first anxiety rings were designed to be simple and stylish, with a small gemstone or bead set in a metal band. As the popularity of these rings grew, designers began to incorporate more intricate designs and features. Some anxiety rings have moving parts, such as spinning bands or rotating beads, that can be used to calm the mind and promote mindfulness.

Today, anxiety rings come in a wide range of styles and designs, from elegant and understated to bold and eye-catching. They are made from various materials, including silver, gold, and stainless steel. They can be set with a variety of gemstones or crystals.

The Science Behind Anxiety Rings and Their Effectiveness

The science behind anxiety rings is based on mindfulness and tactile stimulation principles. Mindfulness is a practice that involves focusing on the present moment and becoming more aware of one’s thoughts and emotions. Tactile stimulation is using touch to calm the mind and promote relaxation.

Anxiety rings provide a tactile reminder to stay present at the moment and take deep breaths. When people feel anxious or stressed, they can use the ring to ground themselves and refocus their attention on the present moment. Spinning or rubbing the ring can also provide a soothing sensation that helps calm the mind and reduce anxiety.

Studies have shown that mindfulness practices can be effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Furthermore, research has demonstrated that tactile stimulation actively decreases stress levels and fosters a state of relaxation. In theory, combining these two principles in anxiety rings makes them a powerful tool for managing anxiety and promoting mental wellness.

How Anxiety Rings Are Used in Mental Health Treatment

Anxiety rings are becoming increasingly popular in mental health treatment, particularly for those who suffer from anxiety disorders. Mental health professionals use anxiety rings to help clients manage their anxiety and promote mindfulness.

Some mental health practitioners employ anxiety rings as a grounding tool within the realm of mental health treatment. When a person feels anxious or overwhelmed, they can use the ring as a physical reminder to stay present at the moment. They can focus on the sensation of the ring on their finger and use it to calm their mind and reduce anxiety.

In cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), a type of talk therapy that emphasizes altering negative thought patterns and behaviours, anxiety rings find application. Therapists incorporate anxiety rings as a tool to aid clients in maintaining focus on positive thoughts and reinforcing newly acquired behaviours during the therapy sessions.

The Popularity of Anxiety Rings in the Wellness Industry

The popularity of anxiety rings has exploded in recent years as more people become aware of the importance of mental health and wellness. Anxiety rings are becoming a popular accessory for people of all ages and backgrounds. Many people perceive them as a symbol of self-care.

One reason for the popularity of anxiety rings is their accessibility. In contrast to conventional forms of mental health treatment like therapy or medication, anxiety rings offer a comparatively affordable option accessible to anyone. But do they really work or just serve as bandaids to symptoms?

The versatility of anxiety rings contributes to their popularity. Moreover, users can utilise them in diverse settings, including the workplace and social situations. Additionally, these rings offer customisation options to cater to the individual needs and preferences of the wearer. Furthermore, they maintain a discreet profile and can be worn without attracting attention.

How to Choose the Right Anxiety Ring for Your Needs

Choosing the right anxiety ring can be a personal and individualised process. There are a few factors to consider when selecting an anxiety ring, including:

Style

Choose a style that appeals to you and reflects your taste.

Material

Consider the material of the ring, as some materials may be more durable or hypoallergenic than others.

Fit

Ensure the ring fits comfortably on your finger and is not too loose or tight.

Features

Consider the features of the ring, such as spinning or moving parts, and choose one that suits your needs and preferences.

The Future of Anxiety Rings in the Wellness Industry

The future of anxiety rings in the wellness industry looks bright. As more people become aware of the importance of mental health and wellness, anxiety rings will likely continue growing in popularity. Designers continue to innovate and create new styles and features, making anxiety rings a versatile and customisable tool for managing stress and promoting mindfulness.

Additionally, some mental health professionals are starting to recognise the benefits of anxiety rings in their treatment plans. While researchers conduct more studies on the effectiveness of anxiety rings in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, the populace may increasingly embrace them as a widely accepted tool.

Do Anxiety Rings Really Work?

The bottom line: If they work for you and you feel they make a difference, go for it. It certainly won’t do you any harm. Be aware, however, you’ll need to spend money on something more distracting than anything else.

The placebo effect can be powerful; if someone truly believes something will work, they will likely get “some” benefit from it. This is, however, unlikely to be long-lasting.

Is There a Downside to Wearing Anxiety Rings?

There is, however, a downside. A person with a genuine anxiety disorder could be steered away from reaching genuine, effective, and lasting help.

This person would be far better off seeking help from a strategic psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist.

Anxiety Rings vs. Hypnotherapy: Which Has a Lasting Effect?

Remember, anxiety is not something people catch; you can’t reach out and touch it. It’s something you do. You have to run the pattern yourself.

Look at it this way. Anxiety results from a series of beliefs, behaviours, and cognitive distortions that people run. For example, an avoidant coping style, global thinking, a negative future expectancy and ineffective compartmentalisation. These are beliefs and behaviours that need to be addressed as such. A qualified professional can help you address them; you address the anxiety in addressing them.

Wearing an anxiety ring will not have a lasting effect on dealing with anxiety.
